Uplifting Updates

Here’s some follow-up on a few posts I’ve written.

Kahuna

He’s responding to his new diet and is gaining weight slowly, but steadily. He’s certainly becoming more of his old bossy self which generally means he’s in good spirits.

As far as I can tell, all the nerves in Cleo’s face have been restored and she’s back to her not-so-droolly self.

The antibiotics have done their thing and while her udder will never be fully restored, she is now free from infection. Since this was a relapse, I’ll be keeping a close eye on her for some time.

She was standing on her injured leg and seemed to have no trouble walking, so I released her on Friday. Since then the swelling has continued to go down and she’s well on her way to a full recovery.

Puff’s Perch

All our creatures are unique individuals; as they remind me daily. Rumplepuff, one of our rescue sparrows, thinks that the approach of darkness signals snuggle time. While he’s not quite so obviously snuggly as Cheeky, our cockatiel, he has his own version.

He thinks that nothing would be better than to crawl up under my hair and go to sleep. Usually the sleeping, is preceeded by much fussing over how the whole cubby is arranged. He pushes my collar (he insists that it’s better if I have a collar), adjusts my hair and pecks my neck until everything is just so. This is not so comfortable for me, but once he gets settled, he will just sit quietly, sometimes even tucking his head under his wing and taking a nap. And once he’s all cozy, he is quite adamant that I sit perfectly still, too; on pain of pecking.

The thing is, he’s just so darn cute, I put up with the pecking and fussing and mussing of my hair. So this is quickly becoming an evening ritual, though as the night comes sooner these days, it must be interrupted by any number of the things I still have to do in a day.
